A Quick Guide to 3D Printing

Many people are interested in watching the production of three-dimensional objects from a computer image.  The excitement is seeing the printer mold an object. The 3D printer operates by being connected to a computer device that is used to send instruction of the object to be printed.
It is thought that the 3D printer was made in the recent millennium past by a large group of people.  This, however, is not correct as the printers were invented in the nineteenth century.  What current 3D printers differ from the prototypes is the introduction of new features. Such the proto-types 3-D printers take relatively long time to print a single object.  Innovations have focused on reduction of cycle time .   This is evident in the numerous objects current three dimension printers can print in just a few hours time.

Another product improvement of 3-printing is the reduction of the errors.  The first generation three dimension printers would make a lot of error on the object. This was as a result of inaccuracies in the molding equipment therefore although an object resembled the computer image it was not yet a hundred percent replica of the image.  Therefore that why the 3D printers developers have focused on reduction and where possible elimination of printing errors. One of the reasons for perfect image printing is the molding simulation . This enables the computer to display a virtual printing process, therefore, the operator will identify where errors are likely to occur, by using this knowledge a person can make the necessary adjustments.

Current 3D printers have the abilities to print very many objects.  Innovations have brought about other printing materials.  First general three dimension printers could only use certain few materials to print thereby limiting the number of items they could produce. This involves the introduction of more molding techniques that had made printing of items which before it was not possible to print.

Current 3-D printing is capable of printing an object with not only one color but also several colors at the same time.   The prototypes had only the ability to make one-colored objects thus others colors had to be applied on the object manually.  To understand more about 3D printing, visit http://edition.cnn.com/TECH/specials/make-create-innovate/3d-printing/ .

Printing of lost or damaged archeological items is one of the major uses of current three dimension printers.  This is done through software that after scanning the object will show the most likely shape of the destroyed part, which is printed thereby making the artifact complete.

The above innovation although good has made the 3D printing technology even more expensive. Some of the initial printing techniques such as injection modelling although they used to take very long in comparison to the recent techniques they were relatively cheap.
